Opening ceremony
Ah, the opening ceremony, you know, it's quite the spectacle, really. You've got the grand entry, the banners, the flags waving in the breeze, a sea of faces, all eyes on the stage. "The opening ceremony," I say, "it's quite the production, you know."
There's the mayor, speaking in English, "Ladies and gentlemen," he says, "welcome to [City Name] in the year 2022." He's got a smile, a bit of a pause, then, "We are thrilled to host this event that will bring together so many people from all over the world."
The crowd, you could feel the excitement, the buzz of anticipation. "A grand entry," I remember thinking, "with a parade of floats and dancers." The music, the lights, it's all so vibrant, so full of life.
And then, the mayor, he's talking about the economic impact, "This event is expected to bring in [X amount of money], and create [Y number of jobs]." I'm thinking, "Wow, that's a lot of money," but I'm not sure if I should be impressed or worried about the environmental impact.
I remember, I was there, standing in the crowd, and he said, "We are committed to sustainability," and I was like, "Okay, I hope they mean it." Because let's face it, in 2022, we've all heard the stories about big events and the mess they leave behind.
The speeches go on, and I'm getting a bit tired, standing there, feeling the sun on my back. "Ladies and gentlemen," the mayor says, "let the festivities begin!" And then, the fireworks start, and it's like the whole city is celebrating, the whole world, really.
